On 23 March 2016, the new law on the status and supervision of (re)insurance companies has been published in the Belgian Official Gazette.
Before, the Belgian legislation on insurance and reinsurance companies was split into two parts: the Act of 9 July 1975 on the control of insurance companies and the Act of 16 February 2009 on reinsurance companies. The new Act on the status and supervision of insurance and reinsurance companies combines both into one act. The main purpose of the Act is to transpose the Solvency II Directive into national law.
